I like to believe that I live a healthy lifestyle, but one of my aims this year is to live it even healthier. For me, health equals happy because I always feel so much better and happier when I ”live” a healthy lifestyle with good foods and exercise. It is so important to take good care of your body so here are some tips to remember if you want to start the new year off as a healthy one too. These are all quite simple tips but I think most of us tend to forget the majority of them in our daily lives.
1. REMEMBER TO SMILE
The most simple and maybe also the most important one; smile! Smiling can trick your brain into happiness, even if you feel sad. So even if your smile is not genuine and you don’t feel really happy in the moment, you can fake it and there will still happen a chemical reaction in your brain. It might look a little odd to sit and keep faking smiles, but if you want to reduce stress and lower your heart rate, it is definitely worth it!
2. 8 GLASSES OF WATER A DAY KEEPS THE FATIGUE AWAY
Everybody probably tells you this and you read it in every health magazine. REMEMBER TO DRINK WATER! Every evening when I look back at the day I realize I most of the time only had 1 or 2 glasses of water, which is way too less. Since our bodies are made 60% out of water it is important to keep it hydrated. Drinking enough water has a major effect on your energy level through the day, so if you feel tired a lot, try to start drinking more water!
P.S. It also helps with weight loss.
3. DRINK TEA!
Another thing your body really likes is tea, especially herbal tea. Peppermint tea, for example, is also said to reduce stress and chamomile tea is your friend if you have troubles falling asleep. Most of the herbal teas also boost your immune system which makes sure you won’t be suffering from the flu this winter.
I think this is a tricky one for most people and that lack of motivation is the biggest reason why many of us skip the gym or forget to exercise. The weather is no longer a reason not to go to the gym because you can easily exercise at home. You can find various apps that will help you with this, for example, the 7-minute workout app. Just remember to plan an exercise moment in your day, every day. Even if it’s only 30 minutes it can still make a big difference. What also helps a lot is to plan your gymtime/exercise time one week ahead. That way you can plan all your other activities around it and this way also motivates most people to go.
Relaxing and taking care of your mind is also a really important factor that helps you stay healthy (and sane ;). Meditation makes you calm and also reduces stress. There are many different ways to meditate and I guess you just have to find out which one works the best for you. You don’t have to meditate very long, 2 or 5 minutes a day can be enough. Just find a quiet spot to sit and focus on your breath and clear your head.
Hopefully you can use some of these tips and take them with you in the new year 🙂
